Engage your mind each day
Updated: Feb 28, 2021
Our mind is our warehouse of well-being. In the simplist way, we must exercise it daily to feel better. The deeper explanation is that in order to build a healthy life we must understand how we are connected to all that we do and become. We can take ownership of our health when we reawaken to the ways our mind functions and requires management. This activity includes understanding who we are as a thinking human being and protecting mental function. Actively pursuing boosts in cognition offers us opportunities to maintain our current levels of ability, protect our mind skills from decline, and produce growth in ability. Strengthening cognitive skills can be the very tool needed to regain fitness levels due to illnesses, addiction, life events and general life stages. Even if we've just "been busy with life", increasing our span of mental use can keep us the "super person" we remember being and want to be. Despite their capability of improving our experiences, tools we should be using everyday, such as attention, multiple memory types, language, executive function, processing speeds, and visual spatial skills can be underused and overlooked. When our cognition habits become more sessile we limit the use of such tools. Remembering to include mental exercises and energy that engages these natural and diverse tools is a value giving habit that keeps us strong and growing. Protecting our mental warehouse is an essential and rewarding grouping of exercises that we can add into our daily lives.
